Them Apples

Photos from my first visit to the apple orchard. These apples are from the wonderful Melick’s in Oldwick, New Jersey. I picked out a 1/2 bushel basket of Macouns for making an apple crostata (photo and recipe to follow).

Have you gone apple picking yet? Tim thinks the whole thing is a bit of a scam (he is the son of a farmer) to get people to pay for picking your crops…which is probably true. But it’s still a beautiful way to spend an autumn afternoon, don’t you think? I didn’t pick this time because I was in a rush trying to get my food shopping in before preschool pick-up, etc. Just went to the barn, picked out a basket and grabbed a jug of delicious cider. But as soon as the bushel is done I want to go back and pick some crops–scam or no scam.
