Keep On Truckin’ Cake

This weekend, we celebrated my son turning two. It was a low-key affair–a Sunday birthday brunch at our apartment, no bouncy castle, or balloon animals, or Bob the Builder theme extravaganza at a private children’s club (yes, these do exist in NYC). What we did have was food, boys, and trucks. Conor LOVES trucks. Actually he loves all forms of transportation, but he particularly loves trucks. So in a moment of whimsy/insanity, I decided to try and make the birthday cake myself, and that the cake would look like one of his favorite toy trucks. I’ve mentioned in earlier posts that I am not a baker. I stand by the popular distinction between cooks and bakers. For example: Martha Stewart, she’s a baker. Yes, she “cooks” on her show, but really, she’s a baker at heart. She demands perfection and exactitude. I’m not a baker
