FOOD for THOUGHT

photo

This has been one of the wackiest weeks ever. First, a much needed holiday for MLK Day, followed by a school early dismissal, then a snow day, and before you know it, it’s Thursday…where did the week go?  Why is there so much snow in my backyard? Another polar vortex, really? Too add to the mid-winter chaos, I also received a very last minute call to be on the Dr. Oz Show! Yes, the health guru/middle-aged heartthrob. I will share more details about the experience once the episode airs, but in the meantime, I thought I’d share some of the (mostly) food-related things that kept me entertained and informed this week while life swirled around like the inside of a snow globe. I love how the blog Cup of Jo wraps up the week with lots of interweb cookies, so let’s hope my Food for Thought will be in the same spirit–lovely brain candy for your enjoyment.

After deciding to eliminate orange juice from my family’s diet (a very unpopular decision in my household, but I will persevere!) I found this radio interview with Dr. Robert Lustig illuminating.

My co-author and I will be at the Philadelphia Flower Show in March doing cooking demos for KEEPERS (more details to follow), so this is the research I’m doing before my trip:

Best Philly Cheesesteaks from GQ’s Alan Richman

And lastly, in college, I was assigned a  book of the speeches and sermons of Martin Luther King Jr. and I’ve never forgotten them. At the time, I knew they would be inspiring, but I didn’t know just how powerful and eloquent a writer the great man was. If you’ve only ever heard the I Have A Dream speech, then you should see what else you’re missing.
